Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

FlossGate is developed by Sean Adler ("we," "us," or "our"). If you have questions about this policy, please contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.

2. What Data We Collect

FlossGate collects no personal data and does not transmit any information off your device. Specifically:

• Camera: The app accesses your front camera solely to detect flossing motion using Apple's Vision framework. Camera frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded. No video, photos, or images are saved, stored, or sent anywhere.
• Streak & progress data: Your flossing streak, total days flossed, and daily completion status are stored locally on your device using Apple's UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device.
• App selection: The list of apps you choose to block is stored locally in a shared App Group container on your device. It is never transmitted to any server.
• Parent passcode: If set, the parent passcode is stored as a one-way SHA-256 hash on your device only. The original passcode is never recoverable or transmitted.

3. What Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information.
• We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data.
• We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
• We do not have a backend server. There is no account to create.

4. Camera Usage

FlossGate requests access to your device's front-facing camera for one purpose only: detecting the motion of your hand near your mouth while you floss. This is processed entirely on-device by Apple's Vision framework (VNDetectHumanHandPoseRequest and VNDetectFaceRectanglesRequest). At no point is any frame, image, or video clip saved to your photo library, cached to disk, or transmitted over a network.

You may revoke camera access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → FlossGate. Without camera access, floss detection will not function.

5. Screen Time & Family Controls

FlossGate uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls and ManagedSettings) to temporarily shield selected apps until you complete your daily flossing session. This functionality operates entirely through iOS system APIs. We do not receive, store, or transmit any data about the apps you choose to block. The selection is stored locally on your device.

6. Children's Privacy

FlossGate is intended for users of all ages, including children. Because we collect no personal data and do not transmit any information off-device, FlossGate is designed to be compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents and guardians can set a passcode to prevent children from changing the app's settings.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected any personal information from a child, please contact us immediately.

7. Third-Party Services

FlossGate does not integrate any third-party SDKs, analytics tools, advertising networks, or external services. All functionality relies exclusively on Apple's built-in iOS frameworks.

8. Data Security

Because all data is stored locally on your device and no data is transmitted, your information is protected by your device's own security (Face ID, Touch ID, device passcode). The parent passcode is hashed using SHA-256 and is not reversible.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version here with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
